- Description
- This chapter discusses the origins, nature, role and continuing prominence of paternalism in Chinese business systems. It commences with a discussion of the western perception of paternalism and explains how and why the construct of paternalism has evolved differently in western and Chinese societies. It then examines paternalism in Chinese business systems in order to determine to what extent and under what conditions (where and when), paternalism and paternalistic leadership are applied. The chapter concludes with a discussion of implications for both Chinese and western business people and policy makers.
